Background and objective: Home burglary is one of the most common and important crimes in the country and combating and preventing it can have a significant impact on increasing citizens' sense of security. The purpose of this study was to identify the applications of GIS in law enforcement prevention of burglary in crime hotspots in Qazvin.
Methods: In terms of its objectives this study is of an applied and research type and in terms of nature it is considered as a descriptive-analytical study. Based on GIS capabilities, this study has identified and understood the spatial models of theft crimes in crime hotspots in Qazvin in 2017. The time of occurrence of crimes and the spatial distribution of crime scenes in different parts of the city were assessed and after creating a database using statistical tests, estimating kernel density and graphics, the most important crime hotspots were identified.
Findings: The findings of the study indicate that each of the most important crime hotspots for home burglary in Qazvin had its own specific characteristics. An examination of the type and composition of land uses in the vicinity of residential areas indicates that some land uses have facilitated the occurrence of burglary for thieves.
Results: In order to prevent burglary in Qazvin, it seems that priority should be given to law enforcement, social and judicial policies and prevention programs, increasing citizens' awareness with the aim of prevention, paying attention to the observance of protection and security principles in residential buildings, using new technologies in the fight against theft, increasing the physical presence of police in neighborhoods, greater control of the entrances and exits of the city and the use of GIS should be a priority for the actions of officials and law enforcement officials.
