Background and objectives: Human geography is one of the branches of geography that studies the characteristics of population, culture, worldview, and human values that affect the creation of geographical landscapes with place and spatial differences. Border human geography indicators are one of the important categories in border security management.
Methodology: The method of this research is descriptive-analytical and data analysis has been done with a quantitative and qualitative (mixed) analysis approach. To analyze the data, the Grounded theory has been used. In terms of method, this research is descriptive and survey study based on fieldwork. Open-ended questionnaire, close-ended questionnaire, SPSS and MAXQDA analytical software and Arc GIS have been employed. The statistical population of the research includes professors, experts, managers and commanders in the field of border studies, border security, and border guarding. To conduct the interview, one part of the statistical population was selected as the elite community and to complete the questionnaire, another part was selected as the expert community. After classifying the extracted indices (43 indices), in order to investigate the operational status of each of the indices under the components of economic geography, population geography and cultural geography, through factor analysis in SPSS software, agents have been classified into three categories. Also, to evaluate the status of application of selected indicators in the northwestern borders of the country by statistical analysis, a questionnaire was designed which was completed by referring to the expert community. Status of implementation and application of selected indicators in security plans of Ardabil and West Azerbaijan provinces were reviewed and compared. To conduct the interview, one part of the statistical population was selected as the elite community and to complete the questionnaire, another part was selected as the expert community.
Findings: Findings from the open coding table show the identification of 15 indicators in the field of economic geography, 18 indicators in the field of population geography and 11 indicators in the field of cultural geography.
Results: The results show that human geography indicators are effective in border security management for the implementation and implementation of security plans and programs along the political borders of the country. On the other hand, these indicators are in good condition in West Azerbaijan province, in moderate condition in Ardabil province and in poor condition in East Azerbaijan province.
